April 15, 2015 — Air Force Village West announced that it is changing its name to Altavita to reflect its broader commitment to seniors both with and without a military background. The name change was approved by the California Department of Social Services on March 11, 2015. “As we expand the population of our community to include a broader cross-section of people, we will remain true to the core values and principles that have established our rich, familial culture,” says Brig Gen James L. Melin, USAFR, Ret. Altavita is changing to meet the needs of a new generation of mature adults. And along with this new name comes a new logo, which conveys the idea of flight and honors the community’s history with the military.
The new tagline: “It’s your time to soar” celebrates the freedom and opportunity people want in retirement and enjoy at Altavita.
The new master plan being developed for Altavita will capitalize on existing strengths and add even more ways for residents to customize their experience. Renovations and new construction will create a new fitness and aquatics center as well as spaces for cultural and educational programming. New and expanded programs will focus on holistic wellness with amenities and services designed to enhance total health and well-being of mind, body and spirit.
While remaining firmly grounded in the values of freedom, loyalty, camaraderie, courtesy and integrity—Altavita is also reaching new heights to appeal to a new generation of mature adults. With a broader commitment, a spirit of inclusion, and a culture of greater diversity, we seek to enrich the lives of the people we serve and to strengthen the community.
